Hey Everyone, I hope you all had a great summer. I just rode my bike around and it gets cold very soon in Canada. This is a concept matte painting based on a speed painting that I did a while back. It was done just for fun but I noticed it got a lot of attention. It’s like one of those happy accidents. So, I reproduced it into a full matte painting. I kept it saturated to give it a feeling of romance in the big noisy sci-fi city; a lover’s memory, New York City with all the jazz, you name it. I have used Photoshop for 95 percent of the image except for the two foreground buildings on the far right and far left which have been modeled using 3D Max. Then, I have painted over the 3D objects fully in Photoshop. The final image is 4096 pixels wide; If you are interested to see the initial sketch, more close ups and some work in progress, I have posted some on my blog. Link to more Details
I am really interested to hear your interpretations of the image!
Fantastic idea and beautifully executed. For some reason, it reminds me of some of the stunning cityscape scenes in "Bladerunner".
A newbie technical question for you: you have such straight lines and perfect regularity. Do you use a straight-edge with your work, or other technical devices beyond just your hand holding the pen?
